Slijkstraat 11, Weesp
A beautiful 17th-century corner building featuring large, inviting windows right in the heart of this fortified town that was established around 1150 AD. This vibrant and ancient beer brewing town is filled with old buildings with a full history. One of these buildings is Slijkstraat 11, our own little playing field in the world of menswear. Unfortunately there isn't a lot to be found about the history of the building but we do know it was first build in the 17th century in a period when Weesp was growing a lot because of it's strategic location in between Holland and Utrecht along the Vecht river.
The Slijkstraat is the oldest remaining street in Weesp and from here the expansion started. What we do know about our shop is that it was rebuild in its current form in 1908 under the guidance of architect J. Parmentier for a man called Anton Rijke who used it as a combined shop and house. In his shop he (also) sold textile goods besides his career in local politics. Before we occupied the premises, it served as a cookingshop called Hel's Kitchen.
You can still see a not-so-subtle nod to this history in the form of the remaining kitchen island in store. Around this kitchen island we gather with the team for lunch and sometimes for drinks as well, on a Friday or whenever a celebration is called for, which you are always welcome to join!
